ALEXANDRIA, Vetustissimum Aegypti Emporium, Amplissima Civitas .Penon de Veles, etc., from Civitates Orbis Terrarum,... Part 2. Cologne, 1575-1612. Braun, G., Hogenberg, F.
A bird's eye view of Alexandria, built on the western edge of the Nile Delta, and dominated by the Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque. The city fortifications are depicted, as well as other architectural landmarks. Beautifully drawn European sailing ships and Egyptian vessels ply the harbor and surrounding turbulent Mediterranean waters.
