Title: LVTZEMBVRGENSIS DVCATVS VERISS. DESCRIPT. Iacobo Surhonio Montano auctore. (A very true representation of the Duchy of Luxemburg, by Iacobus Surhonius Montanus). From Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, Antwerp, 1595.
The Duchy of Luxemburg, lying between the Rivers Meuse and Moselle, is presented in this map crafted by Iacobus Surhonius Montanus, originally unpublished for security reasons. Only in 1579, when Antwerp was independent for a short time, did Ortelius begin to use it in his atlas.
Luxemburg dates to 963, when Siegfried, Count of Ardennes, acquired Lucilinburhuc, now Luxemburg Castle, around which grew a town.
