Egypt &c., From Tanner's Universal Atlas, H. S. Tanner, Philadelphia.
A fine map of Egypt during the rule of Muhammad Ali, who had come to power four years after the expulsion of the French in 1801, and who established a dynasty which was to rule until the revolution in 1952, though in its later years, the British held sway.
The map is full of place names and bits of geographical and historical information regarding the routes of explorers, battle and religious sites and archaeological data. Bisected vertically by the snaking Nile River, the map is very graceful in appearance.
