ANDALUZIAE NOVA DESCRIPT. Published by Jodocus Hondius & Sons, Amsterdam, which helped establish Amsterdam as the center of 17th century European cartography.
A very decorative map of Andalusia in southern Spain, featuring the Strait of Gibraltar, the Costa del Sol and the Sierras Morena and Nevada, modeled in high relief. Major cities shown are Seville and Cordoba, with many other cities, towns and geographical features.
The map features as well three strapwork cartouches, a sailing ship, and a sea monster swimming in a sea rendered in a striking lightning pattern.
