Description:

From Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux-Mouches, ou Colibris constituant la famille des Trochilïdes, Étienne Mulsant and Édouard Verreaux, Lyon: Au bureau de la Société linnéenne, 1876.

Martial Étienne Mulsant (1797 - 1880) was a French entomologist and ornithologist. His monumental work, Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux-Mouches, written in collaboration with Édouard Verreaux, contained 4 text volumes, with a separate Atlas of hand-colored plates by Lyon-Geneve-Bale. The beautiful hand-colored lithographs from this work were done by L. Bevalet. The Atlas, from which come our plates, contains 120 exquisite illustrations of the known species of hummingbirds.
