A gorgeous and rare depiction of a pivotal era in the history of the State of Texas.

Original 1874 Texas State map prepared for Morphis' History of Texas. Drawn, engraved, printed and Hand Colored by G.W. and C.B. Colton. Depicts Indian Territory instead of Oklahoma. Inset map of Texas as it appeared in 1835, on the eve of independence of The Republic of Texas. Additional inset maps of Galveston Bay and Sabine Lake. Railroad construction in Texas in the 1870's outstripped all other construction in the entire country. This map shows the extensive railroad network existing in Texas and its rapidly disappearing frontier.
